Uttar Pradesh
JAUNPUR: Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Ajit Singh today said the party's differences with its partner Samajwadi Party on the issue of creation of smaller states will not harm the ruling coalition in Uttar Pradesh. Mr Singh told mediapersons here that there were clear differences between the two coalition partners on the issue of creation of small states, but they would not hamper the longevity of the Uttar Pradesh government. ``Both SP and RLD had clear stands on the issue during the time of formation of government in the state and hence any possibility of the government collapsing due to clash of interest was remote,'' Mr Singh asserted. The former Union Minister however reiterated that his party still supported the creation of small states including the `Harit Pradesh' from the eight districts of Western UP. Barring the SP, all other national and regional parties including the Congress and the BJP were supporting the idea, he said, adding that even the economists and other intellectuals toed this line for the balanced development of the country. On the law and order scenario in U.P., Mr Singh said that there was much scope for improvement on this front, especially by checking the criminalisation of politics. ``Due to political compulsions security was being provided to certain tainted politicians, making it difficult to check the worsening state of law and order in the state,'' Mr Singh maintained.
