Grain procurement begins

Govt. agencies show the way

CHANDIGARH: About 45.47 lakh tonnes of wheat had arrived in the grain markets of Haryana till Wednesday, out of which 44.96 lakh tonnes had been procured by the six Government procuring agencies. Private traders had only purchased 51,335 tonnes so far in this season, according to the Deputy Chief Minister, Chander Mohan.

He said that HAFED had purchased the maximum quantity of wheat (16.60 lakh tonnes), the Food and Supplies Department (9.49 lakh tonnes), the Food Corporation of India (6.15 lakh tonnes), the Haryana Warehousing Corporation (4.33 lakh tonnes), the Haryana Agro-Industries Corporation (4.28 lakh tonnes) and Confed (4.09 lakh tonnes). He claimed that the agencies were paying the farmers within 48 to 72 hours at the rate of Rs.640 per quintal.

Mr. Mohan said that Bhiwani district was leading in the purchase of mustard. HAFED had purchased the maximum quantity at the minimum support price of Rs. 1700 per quintal.
