Gales leave a trail of destruction in Nellore

Staff Reporter

NELLORE: Extensive damage was caused to plantations and houses in Chejerla and Kodavaluru mandals of Nellore district, following gales and incessant rain on Wednesday evening.

Horticultural crops such as mango and lemon in Gollapalli, Patapadu and other areas were damaged to a great extent.

A number of thatched houses collapsed in several areas.

The gales, which also hit Kodavaluru mandal, resulted in several electricity poles and trees getting uprooted in North Rajupalem and other areas.

A number of trees on the National Highway were also uprooted resulting in diversion of traffic and disruption to power supply.

Power supply hit

Disruption to power supply was also reported from Gumparlapadu village of Anumasamudram mandal. Lightning in Atmakur town created a scare among people.
