Citizens' bureaus to be set up in all wards

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, on Thursday announced that Citizens' Service Bureaus would be set up in all the 134 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. She was on a visit to MCD bureaus in Kailash Colony and Vasant Vihar.

Expressing satisfaction over the working of the bureaus, Ms. Dikshit commended the role being played by them in bringing the services to the doorsteps of the people. There were plans to provide more services through these bureaus such as registration for employment, payment of water and power tariffs and booking of tours through Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation, she informed.

The Health Minister, Yoganand Shastri, the Commissioner of MCD, Rakesh Mehta, and other senior officers accompanied Ms. Dikshit during the visit.

Award for PNB journal

NEW DELHI: The bilingual house journal of Punjab National Bank, PNB Staff Journal, has received the Reserve Bank of India's annual award for 2003-04 for the third consecutive year.

The Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Y.V. Reddy, presented the award to the executive director of PNB, K.C. Chakrabarty, at a function held in Mumbai on Wednesday. The Deputy General Manager, S.S. Chopra, the chief editor of the Journal was also present on the occasion.

The coveted "Overall Excellence Award", instituted by Maya Ram Surjan Foundation, was also conferred on the journal at the All India Journal Competition 2003-04 recently.

Book presented

NEW DELHI: The senior Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientist, A. Sivathanu Pillai, presented a book, "Technology Leadership - A Revolution in the Making", to the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, at Rashtrapati Bhavan here on Wednesday.

The book discusses the role of technology in the creation of growth and prosperity in today's competitive world. It argues that the technological strength of a nation decides its global standing today. A nation that has mastered the technology derives competitive edge and commands respect of fellow nations, it says.

Bank branch opened

NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha MP, Krishna Tirath, inaugurated the new premises of the Federal Bank Limited at Faiz-Road-Arya Samaj Crossing in Karol Bagh on Monday. The new branch has an ATM Centre.

After lighting the traditional lamp, Ms. Tirath addressed the gathering. The Deputy General Manager of the Bank, George Varghese, gave a welcome speech, while its chairman, M. Venugopalan, presided over the function. The senior manager, K.K. Ajith Kumar, gave a vote of thanks on the occasion.
