BANGALORE: A six-member gang barged into a software engineer's house on Hosur Road in the early hours of Thursday and looted Rs. 12,000 in cash and gold and silver articles estimated at Rs. 85,000 after assaulting him and his wife. The police said the incident took place around 4 a.m. at the house of Balakrishna Shenoy on 1st Cross, Royal Residency Layout, off Hongasandra, in Hebbugodi police station limits in Bangalore Rural district. Mr. Shenoy is employed in BSL Software in Whitefield. Around 4 a.m. the masked dacoits entered Mr. Shenoy's house after cutting the window grills. They woke up Mr. Shenoy and his wife, Lakshmi, and assaulted them. They ransacked the house and took away cash, gold ornaments and silver articles that were in two safes, the police said. After the dacoits left, Mr. Shenoy called the police. The Madivala police rushed to the spot and alerted the jurisdictional Hebbugodi police. The Inspector-General of Police (Central Range), Shankar Mahadev Bidri, visited the spot. The dacoits aged around 30 spoke Kannada, Telugu and Hindi. The Hebbugodi police have registered a case.
Businessman robbed
A businessman from Jammu and Kashmir was robbed of Rs. 6,000 and a mobile phone by an autorickshaw driver and his three accomplices in Bharathinagar police station limits on Wednesday night. The police said that around 9 p.m. Nazeer Ahmed, who deals in Kashmiri shawls, hired the autorickshaw at Shivajinagar bus stand to go to Pottery Town. There were two other passengers in the vehicle. After travelling some distance, another person got into the autorickshaw. On nearing Coles Park, one of the passengers threatened Mr. Ahmed with a knife. When Mr. Ahmed resisted, the two passengers assaulted him and robbed him of cash and mobile phone. They pushed him out of the vehicle and fled, the police said. The Bharathinagar police have registered a case.
Houses burgled
Thieves broke into two houses in Vidyaranyapura police station limits and took away gold ornaments and electronic gadgets estimated to be Rs. 1.50 lakhs. The police suspect the two burglaries took place between Tuesday night and Wednesday night. The police said the thieves took away electronic gadgets estimated to be Rs. 50,000 from the house of Jeevan Prakash in 4th Block, BEL Layout, and gold ornaments and electronic goods, all estimated to be Rs. 1 lakh from the house of Rakesh in 5th Block, BEL Layout. The Vidyaranyapura police have registered cases.
Murder suspected
Vijaya (28), mother of three and a resident of Bagalur Layout in Kadugondanahalli police station limits, died under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday night. The police suspect her husband, Subramani, to be the killer. The police said Subramani often quarrelled with her suspecting her fidelity. The couple quarrelled on Wednesday night after which Subramani rushed her to a hospital where she died around 10 p.m. The police said the cause of death will be known after autopsy.
