Letters to the Editor
Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati's tirade against the CBI for interrogating her in a disproportionate assets case (May 13) is in bad taste. Her threat to withdraw support to the UPA Government, "if the CBI continued to target her" only strengthens suspicions. Stalling Parliament proceedings over this issue is to be condemned in the strongest terms. Ms. Mayawati should remember that the law of the land does not give her any exemption. She is only lowering herself in the public eye by trying to insulate herself from the law.
The CBI has filed the cases on the directives of the Supreme Court and if Ms. Mayawati feels she is being victimised she should face the trial and come out unscathed. It is not fair for political leaders to issue such threatening statements.
