Inflation slides to 5.67 p.c.
NEW DELHI:
Halting the upward march for four consecutive weeks, the inflation rate slid marginally by 0.24 percentage point to 5.67 per cent during the week ended April 30, mainly on account of lower prices of food items and certain manufactured products.
The point-to-point inflation, as measured by the wholesale price index (WPI), declined from the previous week's level of 5.91 per cent while it was at 4.60 per cent in the same week a year ago. The Reserve Bank of India had estimated the rate of inflation to be 5.0-5.5 per cent during the current fiscal.
