NEW DELHI: Training his guns on K. Karunakaran for his decision to support Marxists in the coming Assembly byelections, the former Chief Minister A.K. Antony on Friday said the senior leader's move was a `dangerous experiment' which was bound to fail. Recalling the `blunder' he had committed 25 years ago by quitting the Congress, Mr. Antony said ``now they are going to commit the same mistake which I had made aligning with Marxists and this experiment is bound to fail. After leaving the Congress in 1978, we joined the Marxist camp and within weeks we realised our folly. Congress-Marxist tie-up is impractical. It will not be successful,'' he said. Mr. Antony, who is here to attend a Congress Working Committee meeting, slammed his one-time bete noire for his decision to campaign for Marxists in the byelections in the politically sensitive Kannur district, which has seen several CPI(M)M-Congress clashes in the past. ``How can he even think of doing that in Kannur? This is a district where several Congressmen had lost their lives and property in Marxist attacks. This will not work and they will realise it after the elections,'' he said. Exuding confidence that the Congress-led United Democratic Front candidates will put up a good fight in the polls in the Azhikode and Koothuparamba Assembly seats, he said ``this election will be a test case. Everything will be clear after that.'' He rubbished allegations of corruption levelled against the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, by two Congress MLAs, saying it was a laughable matter. PTI
