Consecration of St. Behenan's Church begins

PATHANAMTHITTA: The consecration of the newly built St. Behenan's Orthodox Church began with the holy Eucharist on Friday afternoon.

Bishops and other dignitaries were accorded a reception at Thazhoorkadavu and escorted to the church in a colourful procession later.

The Catholicos-designate, Thomas Mar Themothios, was the chief celebrant of the consecration, which began at 7 p.m.

Philipose Mar Eusebeus, Thomas Mar Athanasius, Yoohanon Mar Chrisostomos and Zacharias Mar Theophilus were the co-celebrants.

The Catholicos-designate will lead the holy Eucharist during the second phase of the consecration on Saturday. Gabriel Mar Gregorios and Paulos Mar Milithios will be the co-celebrants.

Public meeting

The head of the royal family of erstwhile Travancore Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma will inaugurate a public meeting to be held on the church premises on Saturday afternoon.

The Metropolitan of Thumpamon, Philipose Mar Eusebeus, will preside over the meeting.

The Catholicos-designate will deliver the benedictory speech. The Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Adoor Prakash, will launch the website of the church and Benjamin Koshy, judge, Kerala High Court, will release the consecration souvenir on the occasion.

The Travancore Devaswom Board president, G. Raman Nair, will address the public meeting.
