HASSAN: Activists of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) laid a siege to the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on Thursday urging the Government to meet 17 of the pending demands of the employees of gram panchayats, anganwadis and Akshara Dasoha scheme.
Procession
A large number of activists who took out a procession assembled in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office and raised slogans against the failure of the Government in addressing their problems. Addressing the activists, the convenor of the district unit of CITU, Sunitha Hebbar, accused the coalition Government of pursuing anti-labour policies. She said the Government has not taken any action against employers who failed to implement the Minimum Wages Act in their industries. Cases have been booked against labourers for demanding that the provisions of the Act be implemented, Ms. Sunitha Hebbar said. The condition of 93 per cent of labourers in the State in the organised sector is bad and it is imperative to pass legislation to regularise their services and improve their working conditions, she said.
