Woman done to death by husband

Saptarshi Bhattacharya

CHENNAI: : A 39-year-old woman, Amudha, an employee of the Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ashok Nagar, was stabbed to death in broad daylight on Friday in a quarrel with her husband at Ashok Nagar. Police are looking for her husband, Anbarasu.

School employees said she had sought police help a couple of weeks fearing a threat from her husband.

On May 7, Amudha complained that her husband had attacked her son with a knife. Subsequently, P.R. Rao, the school principal, sent a letter to the Ashok Nagar All-Women's Police Station on behalf of Amudha.

Amudha was asked to come to the station, where she saw her husband with local political activists. "The police asked them to sort out the differences. We do not know the status of the complaint," the caretaker of the school quarters said.

On Friday morning, she was at a temple adjacent the Police Training College when she was attacked.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, T. Nagar, S. Murugan denied receiving any complaint from Amudha. He, however, referred to another complaint filed by her husband last year in which they had levelled allegations of extra-marital affairs against each other. The police had counselled them and advised them to approach the family court.
