COIMBATORE: The South India Small Spinners Association has appealed to the Centre to allocate more funds for cotton research. The association president, K. R. Selva Kumar, said on Thursday that the Centre was already taking steps to increase the area under cotton cultivation. The mills were also participating in the contract farming projects. It should allocate more funds for research of better varieties. Power charges constituted about 15 per cent of the production cost of the textile mills and a number of mills had gone in for wind energy to reduce it. Wind mills should be made eligible for assistance under the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme.
