Preparation of electoral rolls in final stage

COIMBATORE: Preparation of error-free electoral rolls of the five constituencies that fall within the City Corporation limits is in the final stages, while the rolls in respect of 10 other constituencies were already on display for the public to verify.

A special team under the direct supervision of the District Collector and District Election Officer, S. Kosalaraman, and the District Revenue Officer, M. Karunakaran, undertook the work for the preparation of error-free electoral rolls.

In respect of 10 constituencies in the district namely Mettuppalayam, Avanashi, Kinathukkadavu, Pollachi, Valparai, Udumalpet, Dharapuram (in Erode district but coming under the Pollachi (R) Lok Sabha seat), Pongalur, Palladam and Tirupur, the draft electoral rolls have already been publicised and the draft rolls have been kept on display in 2,289 places. There were a total of 21,42, 240 voters in the 10 constituencies during the previous Parliament election. The recently-concluded summary revision has revealed that as many as 25,976 are no longer alive and 1,55,211 voters have changed their residence. The amendments have been given effect to in the draft rolls, says Election Tahsildar, S. Gopal. The copies of electoral roll are available in both hard copy and in CD format. Electoral rolls in CD for an Assembly segment could be got by paying Rs. 100. Similarly, by paying Rs. 500, people could apply for a CD copy of the electoral rolls in respect of a Lok Sabha constituency, which has six Assembly segments. For those who are in need of a particular sheet in the electoral roll (where the name of a particular voter figures), they could avail it by paying Rs. 2. They would have to apply and remit the fee at the respective taluk office. A particular part in the electoral roll could also be availed in CD format by paying Rs. 80, Mr. S. Gopal added.
