STAFF REPORTERNEW DELHI: STAFF REPORTERNEW DELHI: Following the gunning down of Ranbir Rathi on May 12, the Special Cell of the Delhi police claim to have arrested two members of an inter-State gang of Jatin Sirohi ,who were involved in cases of murder, carjacking and robbery in Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Haryana. In all, the police said, Ranbir Rathi and his associates were involved in 37 criminal cases in Delhi and neighbouring States. The Special Cell said a team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Rajbir Singh, and comprising Inspectors Lalit Mohan Negi and Hridaya Bhushan, had arrested the two 23-year-old accused - Yogender Singh, a resident of Ghaziabad, and Narender Singh, a resident of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh - and recovered two country-made pistols along with four cartridges from their possession. The police said that in March this year a businessman of Delhi had reported that Ranbir Rathi was threatening him to pay Rs 10 lakhs if he did not want to be killed. During investigation, it was revealed that Jatin Sirohi lodged in Bulandshahr jail had conspired with Ranbir Rathi and other gang members present outside for threatening and extorting money from affluent businessmen and the gang was also involved in contract killings. Subsequently, on the basis of a secret information a raid was conducted in Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh on May 10 in which two alleged gang members - Singh Raj and Karambir - who were both residents of Gautam Budh Nagar and 36-year-old were nabbed. One Italian make .32 bore pistol and a revolver with live cartridges was recovered from their possession. Karambir, incidentally, is the uncle of Sunder Bhati and was involved in providing logistic support to the gang members.
