ISO certificate for Arasu rubber factory

NAGERCOIL: : The Headquarters of the International Organisation for Standardization and Certification in Geneva has awarded ISO 9001:2000 certificate to Arasu Rubber Corporation, said its Managing Director (in-charge), Ruchen.S.Barua.

Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, he said the facility, a State-Government undertaking, has obtained the recognition for production of quality rubber sheets, latex and other rubber products.

Started as Government Rubber Plantations in 1960, it was renamed as Arasu Rubber Corporation in 1984. Spread over 4785.7 hectares, it employs about 200 employees and 2,000 workers, including 407 Sri Lankan repatriates.

The workers were being paid wages on a par with their counterparts in private rubber plantations. Besides, three middle schools, two hospitals and five dispensaries function here for the benefit of the workers, he said. The latex and scrap of five divisions of the corporation were being processed in two factories. The concentrated latex of this corporation already has ISI certificate.

Around 2,500 to 2,800 tonnes of rubber was being produced in the Corporation in a year. From 2004, the corporation has been planting high-yielding rubber seedlings to increase productivity, Mr. Barua said.
