TIRUNELVELI: The district administration has planned to organise 1,650 camps across the district - 1,504 in the rural areas and 146 in the urban parts of Tirunelveli - to administer polio drops to over 2.98 lakh children below 5 years during the pulse polio immunisation programme to be held on Sunday. According to the Collector, Atul Anand, the camps would be held at primary health centres, health sub-centres, hospitals, anganvadis, nutrition meal centres, schools, bus-stands, railway stations etc. in which over 6,600 volunteers would be involved. He said 3,05,671 children received the polio drops during the first leg of the programme held on April 10 though the target was only 2.98 lakhs. Polio drops should be administered to the children, who had received the drops on April 10 also. The Corporation, on its part, would set up 72 camps under its jurisdiction including railway junction, bus-stands at Tirunelveli Junction, Palayamkottai and Vaeinthankulam. Moreover, three mobile teams would be on the move with the polio drops. As many as 17 persons would monitor the entire exercise.
