According to a release issued here by the Collector, M. Veera Shanmugha Moni, 1,510 centres 1,382 in rural areas and 128 in urban areas have been established for the mass immunisation campaign. A total of 6,040 persons will be involved in the work. Polio drops will be administered to children from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The vaccine will be administered at all the Primary Health Centres, Health sub-centres, schools, Government hospitals, private hospitals, bus stations, railway stations, temples and other public places. Staff of public health, nutrition, social welfare, revenue, education, rural development and municipal departments would be engaged in the work. Members of non-governmental organisations would also assist in the exercise. Adequate quantity of the vaccine, to administer 3,40,000 drops, was brought from the office of the Director of Public Health and kept ready. The vaccine will be sent to all Pulse Polio centres in time for immunisation. Children in transit will also be immunised. To indicate that a child was immunised, an ink mark will be made at the little finger of the left hand of the child, after the vaccine was administered. Health staff will visit all the houses to make sure that all the children had been immunised.
