THRISSUR: The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) leader and former MLA, Raghavan Puzhakkadavil, died in a private hospital in Thrissur on Saturday morning. He was 81. Mr. Raghavan was elected from the Ollur Assembly constituency in 1980 and '82. He had also contested unsuccessfully from Irinjalakkuda in 1967, Ollur in 1987 and from Nattika in 1991. He was also former president of Kattur panchayat and Karalam panchayat. At present, he was a member of the Karalam panchayat. Mr. Raghavan was also the chairman of the Toddy Workers' Welfare Board. He is survived by his wife, five sons and a daughter. The last rites will be performed at the compound of his ancestral house at Ollur on Sunday morning. The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, described Mr. Raghavan as a powerful trade union leader who had raised his voice for the rights of workers both inside and outside the Assembly and had fought tirelessly for the betterment of their lot. The Speaker, Therambil Ramakrishnan, said that his services to the political and trade union fields would always be remembered.
