TORANAGAL (BELLARY DT): The Minister for Revenue, M.P. Prakash, has come out in support of handing over the Kumaraswamy Mines in Sandur taluk to Jindal Vijayanagar Steel Ltd. (JVSL), which has set up a multi-crore integrated steel plant here. Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, Mr. Prakash said that it is the usual practice to allot captive mines to major steel producing units, and JVSL had planned to raise production to 10 million tonnes by 2010. According to him, the iron ore is fetching the State Government meagre revenue by way of royalty and cess. If the captive mines are allotted to JVSL, it will help increase the revenue to the Government. He said he will urge the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, to reconsider the decision to allot the mines to the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC).
