TORANAGAL (BELLARY DT): The former Prime Minister and president of the Janata Dal (Secular), H.D. Deve Gowda, has urged industrialists and information technology (IT) companies to set up units outside Bangalore. He was speaking after laying foundation stones for several development works to be taken up by Jindal Vijayanagar Steel Ltd. (JVSL) here on Saturday. Mr. Deve Gowda said Bangalore has become crowded as most companies are keen on setting up units there. This has affected the city in many ways and it is resulting in an enormous increase in traffic, population, pollution and problems associated with them. This can be avoided if entrepreneurs choose to set up units in other districts. He also urged the State Government to provide infrastructure to promote industries in other areas. Mr. Deve Gowda appealed to entrepreneurs to seek allotment of land for setting up units instead of acquiring vast tracts and utilising only a small portion for the unit and converting the rest into gardens. The Minister of Revenue, M.P. Prakash, who presided over the function, said it is unfortunate that industrialists are not aware of their social commitment. He commended JVSL for developing the areas surrounding the steel plant. G. Karunakar Reddy, MP, performed the bhoomi pooja for the community hall; K.S.L. Swamy, MLC, performed the pooja for the Kumaraswamy Park; Gaviyappa, Hospet MLA, performed pooja for the Vijayanagar Park; K.C. Kondaiah, laid the foundation stone for a new bus stand at Toranagal; and Mr. Deve Gowda laid the foundation stone for a new railway station building.
