KOZHIKODE: Murkoth Kunhappa, bureaucrat-turned-journalist, was remembered at a programme organised to mark his birth centenary here on Saturday. "Among essayists in Kerala, he was the best. His essays were simple yet witty,'' the social and literary critic Sukumar Azhikode said in a commemorative lecture at a function organised by Malayala Manorama. He had been an Associate Editor of the newspaper for 27 years. The writer M. T. Vasudevan Nair; the journalist Theruvath Raman; the former Administrator of Lakshadweep and Kunhappa's brother, Murkoth Ramunny; C.K. Ramachandran, retired Professor of Medicine, Government Medical College; Jacob Mathew, Executive Editor, Malayala Manorama; and Thomas Jacob, Associate Editor, Malayala Manorama, were present. A photo exhibition on Kunhappa and a display of his books were organised on the occasion. Born on May 14, 1905, Kunhappa's was a dominant presence in the State's cultural scene when he served Malayala Manorama from 1966 until his demise in 1993.
