PONDICHERRY: A 130-member delegation of the People`s Action Committee opposing the move of the Centre to convert Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research into an autonomous institution presented a memorandum at office of President A P J Abdul Kalam in Delhi on May 10 seeking the President's intervention to ensure that the Centre dropped once and for all its move to convert the institute into an autonomous institution. The Chairman of the Action Committee and CPI (M) leader of Pondicherry T Murugan told newsmen on return from Delhi that the memorandum made it clear that granting autonomy to JIPMER would affect the poor patients who would find treatment costly.
