I won't comment on stay order: Deve Gowda

Staff Correspondent

TORANAGAL (BELLARY DISTRICT): The former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda has said he will not comment on the Supreme Court stay on the Karnataka High Court's directive to resume the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project.

Talking to presspersons at the Jindal airstrip on Saturday, he said: "It would not be fair on my part to react even before a final decision is given on the issue. Let the court give its final decision.''

However, Mr. Deve Gowda criticised the statements of Ashok Kheny, managing director of Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Ltd., which has been given the project. "He should not say whatever he likes, including he will expose all corrupt politicians. He should know his limitations," Mr. Deve Gowda said.

Mr. Deve Gowda arrived in an aircraft along with M.P. Prakash, Minister for Revenue, and Sajjan Jindal, managing director of Jindal Vijayanagar Steel Limited, to see projects taken by the company. Later, he left for Yelburga in Koppal district.

Mr. Deve Gowda took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party for its "failure" to discharge its duties as an Opposition party. "Had it performed its duties properly, where was the need for us to raise issues and criticise the coalition government?" he asked.

Asked to comment on the reported statement of the Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, asking her party leaders to be ready for elections, Mr. Deve said the Janata Dal is ready for polls. He was of the view that the outcome of the byelections in the State will have no impact on the coalition government. "You all know what was the impact of the results of the Bidar byelection on the government.''
