LONDON: Britain's Olympic gold medallist, Mark Lewis-Francis, has tested positive for cannabis but escaped a career-threatening ban after becoming the latest sportsman to claim he was the victim of passive smoking. Lewis-Francis, a member of the British 4x100m team, which won in Athens last August, has been stripped of the silver medal he won at the European Indoor Championships following the positive urine sample he provided at the event in Madrid in March. He has also been given a public warning and threatened with a two-year suspension if he tests positive for the substance again. "I do not smoke cannabis," said the 22-year-old from Birmingham. © Guardian Newspapers Limited 2004
