HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, distributed assets worth Rs. 42 crores to beneficiaries belonging to Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts to mark the completion of one year of Congress rule in the State on Saturday.

Assets worth Rs. 28.63 crores were distributed to beneficiaries of Ranga Reddy district and Rs. 13.48 crores for Hyderabad.

All the welfare and developmental agencies of the two districts came together to identify the beneficiaries.

Many a beneficiary

The benefits included bank linkages for self-help groups, housing programme, loans to the SC, ST, BC and minorities and Deepam gas connections.

The `Rededication day' programme at the Lal Bahadur stadium here this evening saw large crowds of beneficiaries.

The stadium was spruced up for the meeting where Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy along the AICC general secretary, Digvijay Singh, Ministers and the Chief Secretary, Mohan Kanda, were present.

Colourful posters, banners and white, orange and green colour balloons were strung all round the stadium.

The imposing dais had a huge poster in the background depicting the photos of Dr. Reddy, the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi. The Chief Minister released a book titled `Prathi kshanam prajala kosam' (Every moment for people).

Orderly affair

The two-hour long programme went off without any untoward incident. Unlike the swearing-in ceremony this day last year when newly elected MLAs, VIPs and others were jostled and pushed, the arrangements this time were better organised.

The police strictly regulated entry into the stadium and there were no complaints from any quarter. Regional television channels gave live coverage of the event.

By afternoon itself, a large number of women beneficiaries arrived in buses, private jeeps for the meeting.

There was marginal presence of party workers. Nevertheless, the party mobilised people from neighbouring Ranga Reddy, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda and Medak districts.

Awards for Collectors

The Chief Minister's wife, Vijayalaxmi, daughter and grandchildren arrived minutes before Dr. Reddy came to the meeting.

The Collectors of Nellore, East and West Godavari, Cuddapah, Anantapur and Warangal were given awards for best performance in various developmental and welfare programmes.
