No change in subjects and centre: APPSC

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission has informed the candidates who have applied for Group-II services (general recruitment) that the optional subjects and the centre for written examination chosen by them is final, as per the terms and condition of the notification. Any request for changing optional subjects or change in centre will not be entertained. The candidates are advised not to send any representations in this regard, according to a press release. __ Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: The Congress nominee for Penukonda by-election, Boya Sriramulu, filed his nomination papers at Penukonda on Saturday without any fanfare, keeping in view the Friday's violence. Brahmothsavam at Govindaraja temple

TIRUPATI: It is all set for start of the ten-day annual Brahmothsavam in the temple of the TTD's Govindarajaswamy temple in Tirupati from Sunday. The entire temple complex has been illuminated with serial lamps, arches and cutouts at all major centres in the town. BJP team to study

Maharashtra projects

HYDERABAD: A delegation of the State BJP, headed by G. Ramakrishna Reddy, vice-president, will undertake a study of the irrigation projects being taken up on the Godavari by the Maharashtra Government.

K.Lakshman, general secretary, said in a press release on Saturday that the delegation would assess the damage to Telangana region likely to be done by the projects and submit a report to the Government.__Staff Reporter

Youth dies in scuffle

NIZAMABAD: A 21-year old youth, Bathula Bhushan, died in a scuffle between him and two other youths -- Pochaiah and Karunakar Goud -- at a poultry farm under Dichpally police station limits on Saturday morning.

According to the Circle Inspector, T. Venkat Reddy, the victim was pushed down by the accused when the former intervened and argued on behalf of coolies in the matter of wage payment by the poultry farm owner, Chandram. - Staff Reporter

Centre trying to revive CCI unit

ADILABAD: The Union Government has included the closed Adilabad unit of the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) in the list of factories it is trying to revive. This was told to reporters here on Saturday by the CCI Employees' Union general secretary, S. Vilas, who was part of a delegation which met the Union Industry Minister, Santosh Mohan Deb, at Delhi on May 11. - Staff Reporter

New courses at Kakinada PG Centre

VISAKHAPATNAM: Three courses--M.Sc. (mathematics), MCA and M.A. (economics) will be offered at the Andhra University P.G. Centre in Kakinada from the 2005-06 academic year, according to a communication from the Vice-Chancellor, L. Venugopal Reddy.

Candidates appearing for the AU Common Entrance Test 2005 can seek admission into the three courses at the Kakinada centre. Special Correspondent

One killed in ghat road mishap

KURNOOL: One person died when two lorries collided on the ghat section near Dornala on Saturday.

According to reports, the driver of the lorry, which was coming with a load of maize from Tenali to Kurnool, died in the mishap. __Staff Reporter

Free tailoring centre opened

MADANAPALLE: A free tailoring centre was inaugurated by the Madanapalle Mid Town Rotary Club president, Prithviraj Anand, on Friday. The America Rotary Club Long Grove Chicago sponsored the project worth Rs. 18 lakhs. This is the third project of Madanapalle Mid Town Rotary Club since its installation in 2002. - Correspondent

Award for principal

CUDDAPAH: The principal-cum-coordinator of Helen Keller's High School for the Deaf, P. Dowlat Khan, received the `Indira Gandhi Excellence Award' and merit certificate from former Chief Election Commissioner, G.V.G. Krishnamurthy and former Governor, Bhishma Narain Singh, in New Delhi last week. The award was conferred on Mr. Khan by Indian Solidarity Council for his 19-year long services for rehabilitation, research, education and human resources development of hearing impaired children. - Staff Reporter

Cassette on DIETCET

CUDDAPAH: The Cuddapah DEO, Y. Balaiah, released an audio cassette for DIETCET candidates, brought out by an Urdu resource person, Syed Shakeel Ahmed, at Huda High School here on Saturday. The cassette would be of use to DIETCET candidates taking part in free coaching since a month, Mr. Balaiah said. Brahmostavams from May 20

NELLORE: The district administration has made necessary arrangements for the four-day long brahmostavams of the Sri Penusila Narasimhaswamy Devastanam at Penchalakona of Nellore district, beginning on May 20. More than two lakh devotees are expected to participate in the festival. APSRTC has proposed to ply 125 additional buses for brahmostavams. - Staff Reporter

Haystacks gutted

ANANTAPUR: The Sri Krishnadevaraya University unit of the recently revived Telugu Nadu Students' Federation (TNSF), affiliated to the TDP, staged a rasta roko on the NH-205, here.
