KHAMMAM: The State Government has planned to provide dedicated power lines directly to lift irrigation schemes under the APSIDC so as to minimise the interruption in power supply and to ensure a minimum of 12 to 14 hours supply for the purpose. A sum of Rs 19.60 crores was provided for connecting 170 schemes with dedicated power lines, according to Janjirala Rajesh, Director, APSIDC. He said here on Saturday that the dedicated power lines would help overcome the problem of frequent disruption in the operation of the lift schemes. He said that the lift irrigation schemes handed over to the beneficiaries could not be maintained properly by them due to lack of adequate knowledge and capacity to pay the power bills. The Government could make an assessment of the performance of 1232 lift irrigation schemes commissioned up to the end of 2002-03. In all 573 lift schemes implemented at a cost of Rs 107 crores to provide irrigation to 2.31 lakh acres were found to be non-functional either fully or partially. The corporation had proposed revival of the defunct schemes at a cost of Rs 36.37 crores.
