Property dealer held for plot scam

NEW DELHI: A property dealer of Uttam Nagar here has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Delhi Government for allegedly obtaining a plot of land through fictitious documents and bogus slum dwellers with connivance of Delhi Development Authority officials.

The police said one Noor Mohammad had complained that in the year 2001 jhuggis in Virender Nagar were removed and alternative plots were allotted by DDA in which some plots were allotted to ineligible persons on wrong verification while eligible persons were left out.

Subsequently a First Information Report was registered by the Anti Corruption Branch on December 31, 2003 and investigations revealed that a list of 55 jhuggis displaced from Virender Nagar was sent to the Assistant Commissioner, Food and Supply Office No. 12, Janakpuri for verification for their ration cards by Joint Director (Land Management) West Zone, Subhash Nagar, G.C. Sachdeva, on November 22, 2001.

A scrutiny of the records revealed that the FSO Janakpuri had verified only 35 dwellers out of 55 on November 22, 2001. Further it was found that while the covering letter of the FSO on that very date in DDA's records was original, but the list of 42 verified jhuggi dwellers out of 55 was fictitious. As such, nine jhuggi dwellers, whose names were not verified by the FSA Janakpuri had been shown as verified in the fictitious list.
