NEW DELHI: With the arrest of two men in neighbouring Ghaziabad, the North-East Delhi police claim to have rescued a minor girl from the clutches of her stepfather who had allegedly kidnapped her from his in-laws' house at Kabir Nagar here on Thursday. The accused had allegedly kept the girl with them and were demanding Rs.20,000 as ransom for her release. The police said Sultana, a resident of Kabir Nagar, reported to the Welcome police station in East Delhi that she had 12 years ago married Hira and had a daughter, Uzma, who is six years old. After Hira's death five years ago, Sultana got remarried to Nazir Ahmed and had a son born out of this marriage. After some time, Ahmed started harassing her for dowry and on Thursday went to his in-laws house and demanded Rs. 20,000. As his demand was not met, Ahmed kidnapped the minor girl. After hearing Sultana's ordeal, a police team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Shahdara, L.N. Rao, was formed. Subsequently, a raid was conducted at Bajhera Kalan village in Ghaziabad and it was found that the girl had been hidden by the accused somewhere else. After deploying sources at various places, the police learnt that the accused were hiding at Gali No.11, Gautam Puri, in Delhi. Immediately, a raid was conducted at Gautam Puri and the minor girl was recovered from Nazir Ahmad and Mehrudin, both residents of Ghaziabad, who were subsequently arrested.
