KOTTAYAM: The Kerala Congress (Joseph) chairman, P.J. Joseph, has called for the resignation of the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, in the light of the desertion of the senior Congress leader K. Karunakaran and various coalition partners from the UDF. Addressing a rally of party workers at Kodimatha on Saturday, Mr. Joseph said Mr. Chandy had lost the moral right to continue in power. Mr. Joseph demanded that the Government bring out a White Paper on State finances. The UDF had come to power alleging financial mismanagement by the previous LDF Government. They had alleged that the Nayanar Government had increased the State's debt liability to Rs. 13, 000 crores. However, during the last four years, the State had been pushed into a debt trap as the liability had skyrocketed to a whopping Rs.43,000 crores. ``While the LDF had utilised the borrowed money for development works and creation of new wealth, the UDF, in spite of incurring heavy debt, had done little on the development front. ``They are busy settling scores among themselves, instead of settling the burning issues of the people.'' Demanding an inquiry by a House sub-committee into the leakage of SSLC question papers he said the Government had failed to find out the source of the crime. The incident had shaken the confidence of the people in the education system.
