NEW DELHI: A. Manjunath will be the Congress candidate for the Shimoga Lok Sabha byelection. The decision was taken at a meeting of senior party leaders with the Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, here on Saturday evening. The party has decided to field R.V. Devaraj, MLC, in the Chamarajpet Assembly byelection. Special Correspondent reports from Shimoga: L.T. Thimmappa Hegde, former MLA from Sagar, filed his nomination papers here on Saturday to contest as the Janata Dal (S) candidate in the Lok Sabha byelection from Shimoga constituency. Earlier, the former Chief Minister S. Bangarappa of the Samajwadi Party, M.B. Bhanu Prakash of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and Venkateshwara S. Rathod of the Nationalist Congress Party filed their nomination papers.
