MADURAI: The Corporation will carry out various works in the Rajaji Children's Park at a cost of Rs.10 lakhs. The Corporation Commissioner, D.J. Dinakkaren, who recently inspected the park, ordered repair of play equipment, including rope car and slides. Repair works of all equipment at a cost of Rs. 4 lakhs is under way. Besides, the Science Park in the Park would be renovated at a cost of Rs.2 lakhs. Mr. Dinakkaren instructed the officials to prepare an estimate at a cost of Rs.4 lakhs for improving basic amenities and buy new play equipment. The Corporation has earned additional revenue of Rs.30,000 by way of entrance fee during April, compared to the same period last year, after it introduced computerised tickets from April 1. The revenue for April was Rs.1.40 lakhs. The Corporation collects Rs.2 as entrance fee per head. Besides the six play equipment maintained by it, 10 equipment maintained by a private firm are available at the park. School students are given a 50 per cent concession on the fee for all the play equipment. With the number of visitorsgoing up to 5,000 per day during holidays as against 2,000 to 3,000 on working days, the Corporation has extended the working hours up to 9.30 p.m. The normal working hours were between 10 a.m. and 8.30 p.m.
