Minorities' quota by June-end: YSR

BC Commission report on the way

HYDERABAD: The Government will provide the promised 5 per cent reservations to minority students in educational institutions and jobs before next month-end.

The BC Commission report on the question of reservations to minorities is expected by May end, according to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

He was speaking after distributing gold medals and scholarships to meritorious students of the M.S. Education Centre at Asifnagar here on Saturday. Ministers - Mohd. Ali Shabbir and Mohd. Fareeduddin -- were present.

The Chief Minister presented gold medal and certificate to Ayesha Fatima, State top ranker in Intermediate.

A student of M.S. Education Centre, she secured 984 marks this year. He also presented the G.R. Khan scholarship of Rs. 20,000 to Hyderabad's Rubina Begum, who scored 553 marks in SSC this year.

The Chief Minister congratulated the M.S. Education Centre on imparting quality education and said education of girls was absolutely essential. Dr. Reddy reiterated his Government's commitment to providing reservations to minorities. But for the legal problem the reservations would have been implemented by now, he added.

Rule hailed

The `rededication day' programme saw the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy's Cabinet colleagues hailing his initiatives and exuding confidence that he would lead the State on the path of development in the next four years.

The Civil Supplies Minister, G. Vijayarama Rao, who belongs to the TRS, complimented Dr. Reddy for taking `bold steps and successfully implementing them'.
