THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The City police have arrested a five-member gang involved in extortion and clashes in Chala market under Fort police station limits. According to the police, the arrested were Tharif, 20, Firoz, 21, Ayappan, 19, Vinod, 22, and Haja, 21. The youths were arrested from East fort by the Sub Inspector, Fort, Velayudhan Nair, and the crime squad while carrying out investigations into the attack on a headload worker, Biju at Chala on May 13. With the arrest, the police have been able to prove many cases registered in the capital. All the five were produced in the court and remanded to 15 days custody.
Three arrested
The Fort police have arrested a three-member gang in connection with the attempt to snatch the gold chain of a woman running a telephone booth at Kamelswaram. According to the police, the arrested were Joy, 22, Rajan alias Thomas, 20 and Xavier, 20. The youths have admitted that they were behind 15-odd housebreaks in Anchethengu, Kadakkavoor, Ponthura and Chirayinkeezhu localities.
Found dead
A 56-year-old woman was found dead at her house today. The woman, identified as Radha, of Karatte was suspected to have consumed poison.
