PUNE: Medha Patkar, social activist, on Sunday called upon people to support the former Home Secretary, Madhav Godbole, in bringing out the truth in the Enron deal. Addressing a press conference here, Ms. Patkar, referring to the recent spat between the Nationalist Congress Party president, Sharad Pawar, and Mr. Godbole, said the energy crisis was about power generation and planning. Mr. Godbole exposed the ``murky powers'' behind Enron, she said. "The Government has many options, with the National Thermal Power Corporation and the private Indian company ready to begin generation. The Government must decide on the cost per unit and distribution." People should come out and demand this and oppose the Dabhol project as it would be an ``insult,'' she said adding that she was launching a national agitation against the power crisis and Enron from Azad Maidan in Mumbai from Monday. She criticised the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, for supporting the River Linking Project. When asked about the slum demolition drive in Mumbai, Ms. Patkar said that the Government should apply the same parameters to unauthorised constructions of builders such as Hiranandani. UNI
