Jammu & Kashmir
Special Correspondent
SRINAGAR: With the launch of its one-hour time band, Zee Kashmir of Zee Telefilms Limited on Sunday became the first private satellite media organisation to cater exclusively to the people of Kashmir. To be available on Zee Punjabi on peak hours, Zee Kashmir will have a strategic alliance with Take One TV, a local TV network in the State. "It is just the beginning. Slowly, we are planning to expand this time band into a full fledged 24-hour channel," said Subhash Chandra, chairman, Zee Network. "For long the voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir has remained confined to the region. It is time to put it on the international platform." Describing the launch of Zee Kashmir as a prestigious initiative, Mr. Chandra said it would not only cater to the cultural, social and political aspirations of the people but provide them with a global platform. Local talent will find a new opening and programmes will be sourced from the State. However, the channel "has to be a viable proposition so that it can emerge as the voice of the people." To a question, Mr. Chandra said, "We will try to be as fair as possible." The one-hour band will include news and programmes on youth and a travel guide exploring places of interest.
