Letters to the Editor
This refers to the controversy raised by the editorial, `Remaining above the fray' (May 10), the Election Commission's letter to you and your response (May 14). Though the election observers act as the eyes and ears of the Commission, they are not part of the Commission. So attributing the aberrant behaviour of a few observers to the Commission as if it was itself sponsoring this question is clearly a circumvention of logic.
V. Ranganathan,
Your statement that, "... when in a moment of unexplained zeal, it [the Election Commission] sought to find out why the people were repeatedly voting for the CPI (M)-led Left Front" gives the impression that the Commission did engage in such fact-finding, while it was just a complaint that was not established.
