Special centres opened at bus stands and railway stations

ERODE: Polio drops were administered to 2,58,283 children in the district as part of the pulse polio immunisation programme on Sunday.

The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister, P.C. Ramasamy, administered drops to children at the Erode Government Headquarters Hospital.

The drops were administered at 1,667 centres in the district, including 99 centres in Thalawady, Thalamalai, Kadambur and Burgur forest areas. A special team of paramedical staff visited these tribal settlements to administer the drops.

Similarly, special centres were opened at all municipal bus stands, and two centres at the railway station.

Parents who could not bring their children to the centres on Sunday could get the drops administered on Monday.

Dharmapuri Staff Reporter writes

The second phase of the pulse polio immunisation was held at as many as 923 immunisation camps in the district on Sunday. The Minister for Local Administration and Information and Publicity, K.P. Anbazhagan, inaugurated the campaign by administering drops to children at the camp set up at the Primary Health Centre in Indur near Dharmapuri.

The Collector, Sudeep Jain, also administered polio drops to children at the Indur centre and visited the camps set up at the Dharmapuri Government Hospital, bus stand and railway station.

As many as 4,800 staff drawn from the health and other departments were pressed into service.

In addition, six mobile units were roped in to cover remote villages. Service organisations such as the Rotary and Lion's club also effectively took part in the campaign on a large scale.

The details of the children brought for immunisation were recorded and a violet ink mark was placed on the little finger of the children for identification.
