CHITRADURGA: Civic employees in the State have urged the Government to restore the pension benefits to the retired employees of 219 urban local bodies with immediate effect. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, G.S. Manjunath, president of the Karnataka State Municipal Employees' Association said that an intensive struggle will be launched if the Government fails to meet the demands of the association. Till recently, civic employees used to get pension after retirement. But the Government withdrew the facility from October 2004. If the Government does not meet our demands within 30 days, we will take a padayatra from Tumkur to Bangalore. Around 70,000 civic employees from the State will participate in the rally on June 16 and 17.
