Plan to create buffer stock of textbooks

Staff Reporter

Corporation godowns to be expanded

MADURAI: : The days of textbook shortage are over, as the Tamil Nadu Text Book Corporation is heading towards "buffer stock", roping in more printers and expanding its godowns in Chennai, Madurai and Sivakasi, Managing Director Swaran Singh said on Sunday.

"For 2005-06, the total printing volume of textbooks was nearly 9 crores. Fiftyseven additional printers were engaged and 200 more retail licences were issued to ensure textbooks were available at all places," he told The Hindu here.

He said printing and supply were completed on time thanks to efforts made by the Corporation in the last five months. The immediate plan was to expand godowns to accommodate more stock. Talks would be initiated with the Warehousing Corporation.

All 21 regional offices would have textbooks for all classes throughout the year.

With the Corporation granting 200 more licences, the number of retail shops was over 2,000.
