CHENNAI: : The general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Arun Jaitley, on Sunday made it clear that his party would not have any truck with the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) or the Dravida Munnetra Kazhgam (DMK) as it wanted to show "a new way in Tamilian politics." Shortly after participating in a meeting of State BJP functionaries, Mr. Jaitley, who is in charge of the party campaign for the Assembly elections due next year, accused the two major Dravidian parties of "operating like revolving doors, switching over from one national alliance to another." The thrust of the BJP's campaign for the Assembly poll was discussed at the meeting, he said. "The BJP will not align with either the AIADMK or the DMK fronts." Through the campaign, it would try and create a space for itself in the State. "The last 40 years have seen the politics of personality cult, vendetta, arrogance and politics which is certainly not ethical. Because of the politics which involves personality clashes and vendetta, governance and development suffer," he said. On the BJP's electoral ties with the AIADMK and the DMK in the past, Mr. Jaitley said, "Politics does not operate in a vacuum." In the prevailing situation in the State, the party had decided on going it alone. "One of the prime targets of the BJP will be to enlarge its space as an alternative to both the parties. Time will give us the opportunity for growth however mighty the challenges are." On developing electoral ties with other parties, Mr. Jaitley said if parties other than the DMK and the AIADMK made such suggestions, the BJP would consider them nearer to the Assembly polls.
