NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party is hopeful of resolving the tangle in Jharkhand resulting from the threat by party MP and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi to quit the organisation. Party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said here on Sunday that some senior people, including the person in charge of the State, Rajnath Singh, had spoken to Mr. Marandi and the party was certain that he would not take any hasty step. Mr. Marandi threatened on Saturday that he would quit the party if the leadership did not take back its decision to appoint Yadunath Pandey as the party State president. He alleged that the central leadership took the decision in an undemocratic manner and did not consult the State leaders.
`Tallest leader'
Party leaders here admit that Mr. Marandi is the tallest BJP leader from Jharkhand and could have become Chief Minister for the second time as the majority of the newly-elected MLAs supported him for the job. However, the central leadership favoured Mr. Munda, partly to prove a point that he was the Chief Minister when the State went to the polls.
Uma Bharti issue
The former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Uma Bharti, has said that she has never demanded a position in the party but sought only an opportunity to work for it. Back here on Sunday after staying in the Amarkantak forest area, she said that she had no problem with the recent appointment of the party general secretary, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, as the new Madhya Pradesh unit chief. The party central office-bearers are expected to meet later this month when the Jharkhand and the Madhya Pradesh issues are likely to be discussed. On Sunday, at a workshop for those in the party who directly interact with the media, the key word was that they should learn to communicate better and remain accessible to the media at all times.
