TIRUPATI: Braving the blazing sun, locals of Tirupati and surrounding villages took part in a two-day `padayatra' organised by the Tirupati unit of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), that ended on a grand note on Sunday. Aiming at shedding light on the significance of `Padayatra' in the Hindu culture, ISKCON organised this procession to bring an awakening in the public on the need to adhere to this age-old tradition. The procession, `Hare Krishna Namasankeerthana Padayatra', began at the Radhagovinda mandir in Alipiri by sunrise on Saturday and culminated at the Kalyana Venkateswara temple in Srinivasa Mangapuram on Sunday evening, covering a distance of 20 km, with a night halt and `bhajans' at C. Mallavaram. Tridandi Lokanathaswamy Maharaj, a senior pontiff of the ISKCON movement from New Delhi, who led the rally, delivered spiritual discourses at the temple, in which around 1,200 devotees of Chandragiri, Narasingapuram, Mittapalem and Srinivasa Mangapuram villages attended.
