NELLORE: The Minister for Primary Education, N. Rajyalakshmi, has informed that an amount of Rs. 25 lakhs has been sanctioned for solving drinking water problem in Venkatagiri town, which has recently been upgraded into a municipality. Addressing a meeting at Venkatagiri, where the Minister, on Sunday, laid the foundation, for the proposed municipality office complex, to be built at a cost of Rs. 30 lakhs, said that an amount of Rs. 5 lakhs has been sanctioned for development of slum areas in the town, in addition to Rs. 1.35 crores for providing protected water supply facility to the constituency. About future plans to develop Venkatigiri, Ms. Rajyalakshmi, informed that a master plan at a cost of Rs. 5 crores has been prepared. An amount of Rs. 3 crores has been sanctioned for undertaking repairs to tanks in Ogili mandal. According to the Minister, steps are being taken to set up a national level business management institution at Venkatagiri. Also the seats in the Handloom Technology Institute at Venkatagiri are to be increased from the present 40 seats to 60.
