WARANGAL: Two naxalites belonging to the Janashakti group were killed in an encounter near the Venkatapur forest on Sunday. According to information reaching here, a special team of the police launched search operations in villages abutting the forest since Saturday on a tip-off that Janashakti naxals were camping in the area and settling disputes. The police reached Keshavapur village and spotted some naxalites. The extremists opened fired and the police retaliated.
Weapons recovered
In the exchange of fire that followed, the Mulugu-Parkal area commander of the Janashakti, B. Kumaraswamy alias Madhu, and his gunman and dalam member, P. Sridhar alias Srinivas, were killed. The police recovered two weapons, one country-made pistol and one company-made revolver. According to the Mulugu ASP, Rajesh Kumar, Madhu was involved in three murders during the period of the peace talks and was wanted in a double murder case prior to that. He was also involved in several cases of kidnapping and extortion. Staff Reporter in Anantapur adds: Maoists shot dead a Congress activist of Katrimala village in Pamidi mandal of the district, Boya Yellappa (35), late on Saturday night branding him on the suspicion that he was a police informer. According to the police, three armed naxalites of the Penna Ahobilam Area Committee went to the house of Yellappa at around 11 p.m. He refused to go with the naxalites when they insisted that their comrade Shyam wanted to speak to him. This made the naxalites angry who pumped four bullets into him, killing him on the spot. No policeman visited the village till afternoon.
