KOZHIKODE: The southern meeting of the Indian College of Cardiology (ICC), held at Hotel Taj Residency here on Sunday, discussed, among others issues, the latest trends in the treatment of cardiac diseases. The meeting was inaugurated by K.V. Sahasranam, president, Calicut Cardiology Club (CCC). K. Venugopal, chairman, organising committee, and K.S. Raveendranath, secretary, ICC, were among those who spoke on the occasion. Five senior members of the CCC, Achuthan Nair, K.N. Ravindran, K. Sugathan, Ashokan Nambiar and K. Kunhali were honoured on the occasion. A Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme was also held. K.S. Bhat, president, ICC, presented a paper on the treatment of high lipids using one or more drugs. He laid stress on the need to keep cholesterol levels low (less than 200 mg). In special cases, cholesterol levels will have to be lowered further. He said that more importance should be accorded to preventive cardiology.
