PATHANAMTHITTA: The Travancore Devaswom Board president, G. Raman Nair, has called upon spiritual leaders and teachers to spread the message of the Bhagavad Gita among the younger generation so as to make them conscious of their duties. Mr. Nair was inaugurating the 26th annual meet of the Hindu Mathapatasala Adhyapaka Parishad at the Thuvayoor Maharshimangalam Temple near Adoor this afternoon. "What is needed is the reformation of the Hindu community through a spiritual renaissance. The Hindu Mathapatasala Adhyapaka Parishad can do a great deal in this regard," he said. He stressed the need to promote unfettered faith and Bhakti (devotion) among the younger generation and make them oriented towards the `Ultimate Truth, the Paramatma, the God Almighty.' The TDB chief said that degeneration of social values and ethics was the bane of the modern age and it was high time rich Indian traditions, customs and beliefs was promoted. Mr. Nair said that the Mathapatasalas (religious schools) attached to various temples could be of great help in promoting the spiritual as well as native cultural heritage. The Parishad president, T. G. Purushothaman Nair, presided over the meeting. In his presidential address, Prof. Nair said that organisations like the TDB should effectively utilise the rich knowledge resources of the Parishad and similar Hindu organisations. He said that the Parishad, with its rich human resources, would be happy to extend a helping hand to the TDB, if the latter ventures into the field of spiritual schools centred around various temples. Prof Nair also called for TDB initiation to begin classes on various Hindu texts and philosophy for both the elderly as well as the youths, in co-operation with the Parishad, at various temples in the State. V. K. Rajagopal, G. Narendran, and V. J. Ramachandran Unnithan also spoke.
