KOZHIKODE: The Zamorin of Calicut, P.K.S. Raja, released two books authored by A.K.B. Nair, who has been giving religious discourses for nearly three decades, at a function here on Sunday. Speaking after releasing the books `Punya Dinangalude Adhyatmika Prasakthi' and `Ramayananthile Pramukha Tharangal,' the Zamorin remarked that Mr. Nair, who had been with the Income Tax Department until his retirement recently, had shown how worldly and spiritual activities could go hand in hand. The author was felicitated at the function by V.K.S. Eradi, chairman, Bhavans Vidyalaya; V.K.S. Menon, management consultant; Balakrishna Marar of the Poorna Publications, and Pattayil Prabhakaran, religious scholar. Replying to the felicitations, Mr. Nair said going by the response of audience to his religious discourses, which he had held in a number of temples in and outside Kerala, interest in religious matters was growing. He said educating people on scriptures and epics, especially the Ramayana, was the most effective way to promote ethics and values in politics. Some of the best lessons in power politics based on morality and ethics could be found in passages in the Ramayana where Bharatha expresses his reluctance to become king following Rama's decision to live in forest. A citation in honour of Mr. Nair was read out by Palancherry Subrahmanyan Namboothiri on the occasion, which also marked his sixtieth birthday celebrations. K.M. Sureshchandran, convener, programme reception committee, also spoke.
