Prabhakar cremated

BANGALORE: The funeral of the former Minister and freedom fighter, K. Prabhakar, who passed away here on Saturday, took place on Sunday at Gandhigram (Honnasandra) in Nelamangala taluk of Bangalore Rural district.

The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, has condoled the death of Prabhakar.

The Minister for Water Resources, M. Mallikarjun Kharge, was among those who visited the residence of Prabhakar.

Prabhakar was a schoolteacher before he entered politics. He participated in the freedom movement. Elected for the first time to the erstwhile Mysore Legislative Assembly in 1952, he was re-elected four more times and was an MLA till 1983.

Known for his simplicity and belief in Gandhian values, Prabhakar is survived by wife, four sons and three daughters.

One of his sons, H.P. Cheluvaraju, is a member of the Bangalore Rural Zilla Panchayat.
