BANGALORE: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) leadership asserted its authority on Sunday and made the party candidate for the Chamarajpet Assembly byelection, R.V. Devaraj, resign his membership of the Legislative Council. One of the conditions laid down by the AICC before selecting Mr. Devaraj for the election was that he should resign his membership of the Upper House. Party sources said that he went to the Congress Bhavan and submitted his resignation to the KPCC President, B. Janardhana Poojary.
`B' form
Only after that was he issued the "B" form denoting that he is the official candidate. He would be sending in his main letter of resignation from the Council to its Chairman, V.R. Sudarshan, on Monday. Mr. Devaraj has already filed his nomination papers for the byelection and that was before the party announced his selection. KPCC sources also said that the candidate for the Shimoga Lok Sabha byelection, Ayanur Manjunath, will be submitting his nomination on Monday. Mr. Poojary held a meeting of party workers from the Chamarajpet Assembly constituency. He will be campaigning in the Shimoga constituency from Tuesday.
